Suspect arrested with vehicle tracking device jammer

A man in possession of a vehicle tracking device jammer was among those arrested by the EMPD on Friday, last week.

EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago said the operation, which started at around 8.30pm, targeted Putfontein, Petit, Chief Albert Luthuli and the periphery of the Benoni CBD.

“The operation continued until midnight and yielded 11 suspects, including arrests for drinking and driving, dagga possession, an unlicensed firearm and possession of a vehicle tracking device jammer,” said Kgasago.

In respect of drinking and driving, two arrests were made in Petit and three in Putfontein.

Kgasago said that three suspects were found to have defaulted on their parole conditions as they were hardly two months into their parole days and their vehicle, a blue VW Golf 5, was positively identified as having been involved in several robberies in the area.

They were all expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court on Monday, September 1.
