Northerns downed by Highlands
Benoni Northerns first team lose 1-0 to Highlands Park.

The Benoni Northerns Football Club (BNFC) first XI faced a difficult encounter at home to Highlands Park, at Northern Areas, on Saturday, August 30.
The ELFA Seniors Super League Division One encounter was a tough affair for a Northerns team who consisted of a number of players making their first team debuts.
The team were defeated 1-0.
According to first team coach Flavio Mariuzzi, the opposition did have the better game, but the young chargers whom he entrusted Northerns put up a strong challenge.
“They did well to hold their own and, to be honest, I am extremely proud of the way they played,” he said.
The coach also called back striker Sim Maseko to help bolster his attack.
The first half ended goalless, with Northerns failing to convert a few of their chances.
Highland Park’s goal came from an unfortunate mistake by the Northerns defence, that allowed them to get around goalkeeper Daniel de Abreu.
Despite conceding the goal, the shot-stopper had a superb game, making a number of excellent saves.
“With three games left in the league I am still positive,” said Mariuzzi.
“We lacked unity at the start of the season, but things are looking good now.
“Even though we lost the game we still kept our heads held high.”
