Fabulous Miss Benoni proud to represent the city

The sky is the limit for Benoni beauty Chanley Wong, which is the belief she wants to highlight during her reign as Miss Benoni 2014.

Already in the limelight as a presenter on the youth television programme Sistahood, aired on the Etv programme Craze, 22-year-old Chanley was crowned Miss Benoni at the Mr and Miss Benoni 2014 pageant finals, on Sunday, October 26.

Chanley is very proud to be the face of her city.

“Wherever I go with my career, I am so proud of Benoni; this will be my platform to give back to the town,” she said.

Her sister, Leanne Wong, was Miss Benoni in the year 2000.

Chanley’s decision to participate in the pageant was partially encouraged by this.

“I wanted to keep the legacy alive — and I did,” she said.

Both Mr Benoni 2014, Robert Breedt, and Chanley felt very relaxed throughout the finals of the pageant, with her priority being to have fun.

She returned from a trip to Limpopo the day prior to the finals and had little time for any further preparations.

“I was very relaxed; minutes before going on stage I was still in tracksuit pants,” she said.

A former St Dunstan’s College student, Chanley is in her third and final year of studying towards a degree in corporate communications, through the University of Johannesburg.

She described the coming year as “a very uncertain year”, as she is awaiting confirmation of her application to complete her honours degree.

With this she hopes to venture into more modelling and acting opportunities.

“I have realised the importance of my career and my future as my degree is coming to an end,” she said.

For Chanley family is everything.

She is rich in culture, being from Chinese and coloured bloodlines and speaks fluent English and Afrikaans.

She has a passion for children and was considering teaching when choosing her career path.

“I would love the opportunity to visit more orphanages and such during this year,” she said.

Chanley encourages young women to be more confident in themselves.

Her advice is to do so by getting to know who you are.

“The sky is the limit, the world is your oyster and you can do anything you want if you find the confidence of knowing who you are,” she said.
