Benoni police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said the robbers entered the property and forced open the front door of the main house.
The domestic worker, who was in the main house with her child at the time, noticed the men fiddling with the door.
Sekele said that upon taking a closer look, the maid noticed that one of the men was carrying a “big” gun.
“She then escaped through the back door and went into the back house which is being used as a crèche,” said Sekele.
Fortunately, said Sekele, all the children in the crèche were asleep at the time.
She then locked the door and managed to contact the owner who in turn phoned the police.
“However, by the time the police arrived, the house had already been ransacked,” said Sekele.
The men stole cash, a TV and jewellery.
No injures were reported and no arrests have been made.
Police are investigating.
