Many miles to Northerns for charity

Benoni Northerns Sports Grounds turned into a bikers' paradise on Sunday, November 30, when the 32nd annual Motorcycle Toy Run was held.

Four mass rides took place, commencing from Irene Village Mall, The Blockhouse, Hyperama Edenvale and Silverstar Casino.

For the rest of the day bikers and visitors kept themselves entertained with a wide variety of stalls and food vendors.

Live entertainment by two bands, Tryst and Back Bone, added to the atmosphere.

Approximately 22 315 toys (fewer than last year’s 24 750) were collected, which will be distributed among a selection of less privileged children.

Organising committee chairman Graeme Cartwright said an estimated 12 000 to 15 000 motorcycles were at the event and they were pleased that there were more walk-ins this year.

Other than the weather, which caused chaos when it was time to pack up, the day’s proceedings went smoothly.

People are thanked for their cooperation and are encouraged to support the initiative again, next year.
