Robber shot dead by businessman
A brave businessman from Wattville fought against four armed men who robbed his bottle store, and ended up killing one of them, on December 9.

The incident occurred at around noon.
Police spokesperson Capt Mack Mngomezulu said the four men, carrying firearms, entered a bottle store and tied up the 68-year-old businessman before taking cash from the till, cigarettes and alcohol from the shelves.
“When they were about to leave the shop, the owner managed to untie himself, reached for his firearm and shot two of the suspects as they fled,” he added.
One of the suspects fell and died a few metres from shop, while the rest, including the injured man, managed to get away.
The dead man was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Mngomezulu said the Actonville team of detectives searched for the injured suspect at all the hospitals in the Benoni area, as the shop owner had confirmed that he hit more than one suspect.
“At around 6pm police received information from a hospital in Springs that there was a patient with a gunshot wound and, on their arrival, the patient fitted the description of the suspect,” said Mngomezulu.
He said two more suspects were arrested at around 9pm, and two firearms and ammunitions were recovered from them.
They have been charged with business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
