Stolen goods worth millions recovered on Pretoria Road, two arrested
Stolen goods worth an estimated R3-million were recovered from storage units at a property on Pretoria Road, on Tuesday (January 13).
Two men, aged 34 and 36, were arrested at the property as they were offloading the stolen items.
Crystal Park SAPS media liaison officer Tryna Maritz, said the bust came after a Crystal Park Community Police Forum (CPF) member spotted suspicious activity on Pretoria Road.
The community member contacted authorities after which, a local security company, the EMPD K-9 Unit and the EMPD Bromberg Equestrian Unit responded.
“The two foreign national suspects were asked to open the doors of their vehicle, as the Metro police wanted to search it,” said Maritz.
“Approximately 300 cases of Red Bull energy drinks were found inside the vehicle.
“They could not give any explanation as to how and where they found it.
“One storage unit was packed with Red Bull, one with sugar, dried fruit and biscuits, and one with printer cartridges.
“After enquiring, it was discovered that all of the goods were stolen in three separate incidents.”
Maritz said the energy drinks were stolen from a warehouse in Germiston, the toners in Heidelberg and the groceries (sugar, dried fruit and biscuits), in Olifantsfontein.
The thefts took place between January 7 and 11.
The groceries have been returned to their rightful owners.
The owner of the property, where the goods were discovered, is not a suspect in the investigation.
One of the suspects was arrested with R32 000 cash on him and both men will be charged with being in possession of stolen goods.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court soon.
