Load shedding implemented this morning

Eskom this morning (January 26) announced that it would implement load shedding, as the power system is taking strain.

“The power system is severely constrained today, due to unforeseen technical problems at power stations,” said Eskom on its website.

“As a result, Eskom has had to go into stage one load shedding as of 11am.

“This will continue until 10pm this evening.”

Ekurhuleni has implemented load shedding to its customers as per the latest schedule available (see attached).

People who purchase electricity directly from Eskom have been asked to visit https://loadshedding.eskom.co.za.

Eskom asked people on its website to use electricity sparingly.

“Eskom calls on consumers to urgently switch off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances throughout the day, to reduce electricity demand,” said Eskom.

“As workers leave office buildings this evening we ask that they please switch off the lights, with the exception of security lighting and avoid leaving on air-conditioning overnight.

“Commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, can make the biggest difference by switching off non-essential lights and not leaving office equipment, such as photocopiers and computers, in standby mode after hours.”
