Car thief sentenced to eight years

Sandile Mkhize, from Wattville, was sentenced to eight years in prison for car theft, when he appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court, on Thursday, January 15.

According to Actonville Police Station spokesperson WO Ramothakhi Maqabe, the 24-year-old and a friend attempted to push the car away from the scene, in Actonville, on October 11, last year.

Mkhize was arrested on the scene by Const Timothy Baloyi and Const Piet Ngwepe.

His friend fled and has not been found.

Investigating officer Lieut Mzwandile Nkosi investigated the case which led to his conviction.

“Mkhize was previously convicted for possession of stolen property and was sentenced to three years in prison in 2011, he was also previously sentenced to two years in prison, with a further five years suspended, for possession of stolen property,” said Maqabe.

Mkhize will serve his time at the Modderbee Prison.
