Wattville man sentenced to 20 years for killing wife

Innocent Batuza, a Wattville resident, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, on March 26, for killing his wife and attempting to kill a man.

According to WO Ramothakhi Maqabe, Actonville SAPS spokesperson, on July 5, 2014, Batuza shot his wife in the face, in front of her son, who was a minor, after accusing her of cheating.

He then proceeded to the house of a man whom he accused of having an affair with his wife, and shot him.

The man survived.

Cases of murder and attempted murder were opened against Batuza and, on July 9, he handed himself over to the Actonville Police Station

Const Calvin Phuti Mashabela was the investigating officer.

Batuza was sentenced in the Benoni Regional Court, to 15 years for murder and 10 years for attempted murder.

Five years of his sentences will run concurrently, resulting in him serving 20 years, at Modderbee Prison.

He was also certified unfit to be in possession of a firearm.
