Thando needs your votes for Miss Teen Commonwealth SA 2015

Crystal Park resident Thando Mtsweni (18) needs your votes to be chosen as a finalist for this year's Miss Teen Commonwealth South Africa 2015.

She is currently one of 50 semi-finalists in the line-up for this year’s title and needs votes to proceed further in the competition.

The professional model started taking part in pageants when she joined her Tshwane-based agency, Vogue Catwalk SA.

“I took part in Princess of Africa and Miss Exquisite, and then spotted the Miss Teen Commonwealth SA contest online and decided to enter,” she said.

”The pageant is about giving back to the community and doesn’t focus only on our looks, but mainly on how we give back to the community in which we live.”

Thando, who is in matric at Curro Serengeti Academy, has already started on her journey in philanthropy in the short space of being a pageant semi-finalist.

“Throughout my journey I will be working with the Senzokuhle After Care Drop In Centre , based in Daveyton,” she said.

”With the help of my sponsors, Mbalemhlophe Health Services, in Springs, and Naledi Bakeries, in Daveyton Mall, I hope to raise R20 000 or more for Senzokuhle.

”I will, therefore, be hosting a variety of events, starting with a popcorn sale on April 25, in Daveyton, to help with

donations for the organisation.”

The finale of the pageant will take place at the Lyric Theatre, in Gold Reef City, on September 12, and Thando hopes to be the one chosen to represent her country in the international pageant, which will take place in London, in November, when all 53 Commonwealth member states will be represented.

The pageant gives young women an opportunity to be culture and charity ambassadors in their communities and country.

“I entered Miss Teen Commonwealth South Africa because I would like to be the change to help uplift the overall life of the unfortunate in society,” Thando said.

”I strongly believe that, with God by your side, nothing is impossible.

”I have learned so far that you’re able to create opportunities to help others.”

To vote for her, SMS Thando Mtsweni to 35554.

Each sms is charged at R3 and there is no limit to the number of votes.
