Suspected robbers arrested after boarding taxi with TV

Crystal Park SAPS arrested four suspected house robbers on Thursday, 30 minutes after they allegedly robbed a home in Northmead Extension Four.

Tryna Maritz, Crystal Park SAPS media liaison officer, said the station’s Const Majozi Phakula and Const Neo Seisa were patrolling when they were tipped off by community members about four suspicious-looking men in a taxi who were in possession of a Plasma TV and other goods.

A lookout for the vehicle was given.

The officers spotted the taxi and pulled it over on the corner of Springs Road and Sentrust Street.

Upon searching the vehicle, a Plasma TV, Xbox, jewellery and clothes were found.

The suspects were unable to explain how they acquired the goods.

Maritz said they are from Denver, in Johannesburg.

The suspects told police they travel by train from Denver to the Northmead Train Station, after which they scout possible targets in Benoni.

They then travel with the stolen goods by taxi to Daveyton, then to Springs, where they catch a train back to Denver.

Maritz said police cannot link the men to other crimes at this stage, but the investigation is ongoing.

The taxi driver is not believed to be involved in the crime.
