Crystal Park Police Station members Capt JC Makubo, Sgt Rudie Sieberts and Sgt Charles Kodisang were patrolling along Main Reef Road, near Lindelani, when they spotted a group of people in the veld.
The group dispersed when they saw the police.
Police managed to apprehend three men, between the ages of 19 and 40.
They were found in possession of 10 blasting cartridges, a 10m detonator fuse, generator, industrial drill and mining equipment.
They were due to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on May 15, on a charge of possession of explosives and possession of illegal mining equipment.
