Taking charge to keep streets clean

The "Litter bugs" will be embarking on yet another operation aimed at keeping Farrarmere streets clean.

The group was started by Samantha Choles and Anne Mcleman in July, last year.

Over the months the group has grown.

Every month, the members select an area in Farrarmere that needs cleaning, and they pick up all the litter in that area.

They call themselves “litter bugs” because litter “bugs” them.

Choles said last month they transported two bakkie loads and two trailers of refuse to the dump, following a clean-up on Bayley Street.

For July, the “litter bugs” will be repainting the Lakeside Fountain from 8am, on the corner of Main Road and Trekieve Street, on Saturday, July 11.

On July 18, the group will host another Mandela Day litter clean-up, from 8am till 10am.

Members of the public are invited to join in and to meet at Farrarmere Square, on Kei Road.

The clean-up will start from the Square and move to Great North Road, towards Farrarmere Gardens.
