Possible water shortage on the cards
Gauteng residents may face a water shortage, due to a strike by Rand Water members of the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu).

Rand Water spokesperson Justice Mohale said no agreement had been signed by Monday afternoon (August 17).
According to Mohale, Rand Water was served with a 48 hours notice to strike by Samwu on Monday.
“No agreement has yet been reached in respect of the demands made by the trade union.
“The demands include the percentage increase to salary, housing allowances and the incentive bonus,” he said.
He explained that the meeting confirmed that the minimum services level agreement is not being disputed.
Samwu is demanding a 10 per cent increase for all the lowest paid workers at Rand Water, a nine per cent increase for middle-income workers and eight per cent increase for supervisors.
The union also wants a 12 per cent incentive bonus and R2 150 housing allowance across the board.
At the moment, Rand Water has offered a six per cent increase.
Mohale said even with the threat of a strike, Rand Water will continue to provide quality potable water to all its customers.
“Rand Water remains committed to reaching an amicable resolution to the current salary negotiations,” he added.
