Local dog wins at championship

One of Benoni's top obedience dog's performed well at the recent Kennel Union of Southern Africa (Kusa) championships, held in Bloemfontein.

Rynfield resident Margaret Mudd and her nine-year-old German Shepherd, Sasha, competed at the championships over the weekend of August 7 to 10.

Sasha placed third and won a champion certificate at the show, on August 7.

On August 8, at the Kusa Nationals, she finished in second position.

On August 10, the dog took first place, receiving a champion certificate, at the Central Free State Championship show.

Sasha already has her provincial colours in dog obedience and needs six more champion certificates to be granted grand champion status.

Mudd said her dog has achieved a lot despite having been adopted from an SPCA branch.

“There are many SPCA dogs out there waiting for a new home, who, given a chance, will pay you back a thousandfold,” she added.

“You do not need a pedigree to obtain results; lots of love and patience does the trick.”
