Police honour top achievers

The police's top performers were recognised for their hard work and dedication at the first ever Benoni Cluster Prestige Awards ceremony, at the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre, on October 22.

Members of the Benoni, Crystal Park, Actonville, Daveyton, Etwatwa and Putfontein police stations formed part of the ceremony.

Maj Gen Vincent Leshabane, deputy provincial commissioner for detective services in Gauteng, delivered the keynote address.

He told the men and women in blue to show integrity and loyalty when fulfilling their duties.

“Without integrity and loyalty you can’t win this war,” he said.

Benoni SAPS acting cluster commander Brig Poobalan Subbiah said rewarding police and police workers is crucial in keeping members motivated, and described the event as the “rebirth” of the Benoni SAPS cluster.

“When I looked at the spirit of the members on the day I was taken aback,” he added.

He said the competitive spirit within the police will lead to more effective and efficient policing.
