Hundreds searched in police operation

Hundreds of vehicles were searched during a crime prevention operation mounted by the Benoni SAPS cluster, on November 13.

The operation was conducted on the N12 highway, at the Etwatwa off-ramp, with the support of the EMPD and Gautrans.

On the day, 127 cars were searched and checked for roadworthiness.

“A total of 387 people were searched,” said police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele .

She added that traffic fines worth R9 100 were issued to people driving without licences, with expired licence disks and with worn out tyres.

She said motorists were cooperating.

Sekele added that this operation will be on-going until the end of the festive season.
