The meeting was held on Limpopo River Street, at 10am, and another gathering will take place at the same location and time this Sunday (May 1).
Johannes Stone, who is a resident in the area and organised the meeting, said they expected between 500 to 1 000 people but received an attendance of 300 people, which he believes was still a productive turn out.
“At this Sunday’s (May 1) meeting, we are inviting the station commander of Crystal Park Police Station, among others,” he said.
The meeting came as a result of the community growing tired of the “constant crime” in the area.
“We have reported numerous incidents to the Crystal Park Police Station, but nothing has happened as yet,” said Stone.
One such incident which was reported was a burglary at Stone’s home on April 19.
“I have received no feedback since I opened the case on Tuesday,” he said.
However, Tryna Maritz, Crystal Park Police Station’s acting communications officer, said the reported cases will be dealt with.
“My station commander, Lieut-Col Belinda Motaung, will contact Stone about the complaints and take it from there,” she said.
Stone explained that the meetings are being held in order to bring about a safer community.
“We also want to see more Community Policing Forum (CPF) patrols in the area,” he said.
