The EMPD Equestrian Unit members were alerted to a truck stationed on the side of the R50 road in Bromberg, on the same day as the arrest.
EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago said the truck, which had a load of shoes, was hijacked in Brighton Beach, KwaZulu-Natal.
“On confirming the location of the truck with the vehicle tracking company, the equestrian members were joined by the EMPD Loss Control Unit members to beef up numbers,” said Kgasago.
“A yard nearby Bapsfontein was raided and some of the stock of shoes was recovered.”
A search on the property revealed 20 mags, which are valued at R40 000.
The mags were contents in a truck that was hijacked in Alberton on May 9.
Kgasago said a further 68 boxes of 816 pairs of shoes were also found, which are valued at R170 000.
A total of R14 000 in cash was also found on the suspects.
The four arrestees, aged between 24 and 32, were charged with possession of suspected stolen goods at Welbekend Police Station.
All the recovered goods and the cash was booked in at the same police station.
The suspects were expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
