Caught in the act

Patrolling EMPD members arrested two men for attempted robbery after they saw them holding two pupils at knifepoint.

The arrest took place on May 10, on the corner of Bunyan Street and Newlands Avenue, at around 2.40pm.

“The EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members spotted two young men accosting two pupils with a knife attempting to scare them into parting with their cellphones,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago.

“The two suspects were arrested and the knife used in the attempted robbery confiscated.”

The suspects, who are both 18 years old, were detained at the Benoni Police Station and charged with attempted robbery.

They were expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
