Farrarmere man scares off hijackers with hot cup of tea

A Farrarmere resident scared off three potential hijackers when he threw his hot tea over one of them.

The incident happened at around 6am this morning (June 7.)

The suspects fired two shots at the resident, but no one was injured.

According to Stephen Rehbock, who said he was in the car with the man, one suspect stood outside the car as they pulled out of the driveway.

“He gestured that we should keep quiet, when John* threw his tea onto him,” Rehbock said.

“He then shot at us, but no one was hit.”

Col Martin van Nieuwenhuizen, head of the Benoni Visible Policing unit, confirmed the incident.

He said two shots were fired during the encounter, after which the three suspects, including one in a getaway vehicle, fled the scene.

No arrests had been made at the time of publishing.

John could not be reached at the time of publishing.
