All four men were charged with murder.

One of the four men is also charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Capt Ramothakhi Maqabe said the four men made their first appearance on March 30 and the case was postponed.

The victim was shot on March 25 at a taxi rank on the corner of Eiselen and Turton streets, at about 5.30am.

Capt Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the police’s Ekurhuleni Central Cluster, said the deceased would at times drive his own taxi.

The spokesperson said the victim was waiting to load passengers when two men entered the vehicle.

“One of them pulled out a gun and shot the taxi owner from behind in the upper body,” said Sekele.

“The suspects then jumped out of the taxi and fled the scene on foot.”
