A man and a woman aged 24 and 30 were arrested and charged with murder on October 7 at Mayfield Extension One, Putfontein.
Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Constable Justice Ramaube said it is alleged the duo stoned to death a man believed to be the son of a local councillor after they mistakenly took him for an intruder.
“Police were then called to the scene as the community assaulted the duo after they found the victim’s body,” said Ramaube.

“The duo was rescued by the police but arrested the two and charged them with murder.”
The victim sustained head injuries and was declared dead by the paramedics on the scene.
A case of murder has been opened at the Putfontein Police Station.
The alleged suspects were due to appear at the Benoni Regional Court on October 8.
