The EMPD High-Speed Unit successfully made three arrests of motorists disregarding the speed limit of 70km/h on Great North Road.
“The early evening operation on December 6 took place on Great North Road between Goud Street and Celia Nestadt Road,” said EMPD Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

A driver in a VW LDV was arrested when caught doing 124km/h and found to be under the influence of alcohol.
“The second speedster was a male, aged 19, in a Hyundai sedan who clocked at 112km/h and was also driving under the influence of alcohol,” Kgasago said.
“The third arrestee was a 45-year-old male in a VW sedan. He was arrested for doing 111km/h.”
“Two had additional charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and were released on bail of R1 500 each,” Kgasago said.
“The driver charged with only reckless and negligent driving was released on a warning.
“They are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.”
