EMPD operation a success

The vehicles involved included two taxis, three LDVs and one sedan.

Seven drivers were arrested during an EMPD High Speed Unit operation on Putfontein Road in Crystal Park on December 18.

“The Putfontein Road between Van Ryn and North roads was targeted with the aim of arresting motorists disregarding the 60km/h speed limit on this stretch of road,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“The operation yielded seven speedsters.”

The arrested speedsters were all men of ages ranging from 28 to 52.

They were caught doing speeds of 134, 131, 107, 104, 101 and 96km/h.

“They all claimed they were either late for work or rushing to pick up fellow workers,” he explained.

The arrestees were locked up at the Crystal Park Police Station and charged with reckless and negligent driving.
