Benoni family get full marks – for not missing a single day of school in 12 years

The children agreed that their mother’s motivation enabled them to feel as though they would be able to accomplish anything in life, and her principles were something they would instil in their own children one day.

Completing matric is an accomplishment for any individual.

For Hoërskool Hans Moore High School 2018 matriculant Cameron Brown, attaining a matric certificate was not his only accomplishment.

After meeting with the teen on the day the Gauteng Department of Education matric results were released it was established he also received an award for his 100 per cent attendance for his 12-year schooling career.

This, however, was not unique to just Cameron.

After completing their matric, Cameron’s sisters Sjahdé Tolmay (Hans Moore 2005), Vasti Brown (Hans Moore 2007) and their mom, Sonja Brown, (Hoërskool Noord-Oosrand 1984) also received 100 per cent school attendance awards.

“I am the only child in my family that received a 12-year 100 per cent school attendance certificate,” said Sonja.

“I believe it helped me maintain an excellent work track record as I do not stay off sick easily.”

Sjahdé said 12 years of school attendance taught her dedication and discipline are key to a good work and life ethic and that you are rewarded for applying yourself 100 per cent.

“It wasn’t easy, but it taught me I can get through anything with a bit of dedication,” said Vasti.

“I was motivated by my mother and it became a challenge within my own mind to achieve what so very few people have.”

Cameron said his sisters set an example for school attendance and he also wanted to achieve the status they acquired.

“My mother is my hero,” said Vasti.

“She is also an established author and has continued to live by her lifelong belief that if you persevere, anything is possible, and it definitely shows.”
