Residents urged to register for 2019 elections
Residents can call the Independent Electoral Commission on 0800 60 11 90 or SMS their ID numbers to 32810 (charged at R1) to get their registration status and their current voting station, or visit the IEC website www.elections.org.za to check their current registration details and voting station location.

The Ekurhuleni metro urges all residents who are eligible to vote in the upcoming national and provincial elections to register to vote between January 26 and 27.
Themba Gadebe, the spokesperson of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), said as the required forms of identification to register to vote are green, barcoded South African ID book, smart ID card, or valid Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC). Passport, driver’s license, certified copy of ID or any other form of identification will not be accepted.

“As of November 2018, about 19 150 smart IDs and 1 528 green bar-coded IDs were left uncollected at home affairs offices in Ekurhuleni,” he said.
He stressed that uncollected IDs hamper service delivery programmes because residents cannot register for other municipal programmes, such as RDP housing and cannot collect their title deeds when they are available for collection. Among the services that the residents forgo due to lack of IDs are enlisting on the City’s indigent database for which they are entitled to free water, free electricity and indigent rebates on assessment rates.
