Four learners were arrested for the possession of dagga after officers from various divisions of the Crystal Park SAPS and Modderbee Correctional Services officials conducted an unscheduled drugs search and information session at Crystal Park and Noorderlig high schools early on May 16.
“This comes after information that came fourth of drugs, dagga, alcohol, dangerous weapons and bullying started trending in our schools,” explained Crystal Park SAPS communications officer Const Alex Mokete.

“The main aim of the search was the eradication of all illegal activities on the school premises.
“The station commander, Lt Col Belinda Motaung, has welcomed the initiative and is fully behind it as it bears fruits.”
According to Mokete, during the operation four suspects were arrested for possession of dagga and appeared in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on May 17.
Cigarettes, knives, scissors, screwdrivers, cigarette rolling papers and sealed condoms were also confiscated.

“A friendly warning from the Crystal Park SAPS Vispol head, WO Thabo Mokoena, to the drug users and dealers at schools is that the war is on.
“For the sake of your future and a better tomorrow, please refrain from using and coming to school with drugs.”
Olivia Mothapo (communications services Modderbee Management Area) said the aim of this exercise is to fight crime at local schools.
“Recently, in our neighbourhood, there are reports of school children engaging in different kinds of criminal activities.
“This hinders the educational programmes in our learning institutions.
“Modderbee Management Area took a step to offer security services in assisting educators and parents to identify learners who could be involved in such inappropriate acts.
“This exercise will be continuous in our local schools to promote crime awareness and educate learners about the consequences of crime.”
