Rape and child abuse
Aubrey Bonginkosi Mthethwa received life imprisonment for raping a minor and a further three years’ imprisonment, which is suspended for five years, for child abuse.
The 30-year-old male pled guilty to both charges on April 23 and underwent pre-sentence and victim impact reports.
He was convicted by magistrate Ian Cox on October 10 and is listed on the National Register of Sexual Offenders (NRSO).

Rape and contravention of immigration act
A 34-year-old Mozambican national, Anthony Shongwe, was convicted of one count rape and one count of being in contravention of section 49 (1)(a) of the Immigration Act (Act 13 of 2002).
He was sentenced by magistrate Mitzi Schutte, on October 8 after pleading guilty to both charges and received nine years for rape and two years for being in contravention of the Immigration Act.
The court found material and compelling circumstances that enabled the court to deviate from a longer sentence for the rape charge.
Theft conspiracy
Tebogo Mabotja was charged with conspiracy to commit theft near Benoni.
The 29-year-old male conspired to steal electronic devices and/or parcels from a courier service motor vehicle.
He pled guilty and was sentenced to eight years imprisonment of which two is suspended for five years and was declared unfit to possess a firearm by magistrate Ian Cox.
