Car chase leads to arrest in Actonville

Investigations in the case continue.

Following a tip-off, Actonville SAPS arrested one suspect for possession of two unlicensed firearms with ammunition recently.

“Officers responded to a tip-off regarding a suspicious-looking motor vehicle in Surtee Street,” said Actonville SAPS acting spokesperson Godin Nyathi.

“Four occupants were inside the vehicle.

“When the officers attempted to search the vehicle, three suspects jumped out and the driver sped off, leading to a car chase.

“Shortly afterwards, the SAPS officers were able to corner the vehicle and apprehend the driver.

“The suspect was found with a firearm and five rounds of ammunition.

“After searching the vehicle, another loaded firearm, pickaxe and sharpened iron rod were also found.

“The driver was detained and made his first court appearance on November 6 in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.”
