“Residents must remember that criminals are opportunists who always strike when a person is vulnerable,” said Sekele.
Sgt Raider Ubisi, Putfontein SAPS spokesperson, said residents must adhere to the Disaster Management Act or the president’s injunction.
“As police, we will be continuing with our daily patrols and we encourage residents to stay home even though criminals might ignore those rules,” said Ubisi.
Police Minister Bheki Cele also warned that any person who contravenes the regulations of the nationwide lockdown will be guilty of a criminal offence and will be liable to a fine or imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months, or both.
