Do your job without damaging my property
In a letter to the editor, a Cloverdene resident expresses unhappiness with the police, SANDF and EMPD over damage to his property
Oupa Moshoro writes:
I write this letter as a very upset human being.
On July 23, there was a crime prevention operation conducted by the SAPS, SANDF and the EMPD in the N12 informal settlement in Cloverdene.
I was at work when the operation was carried out and believe that the officers who were involved in this operation broke three of my doors down, gained entry into my home and searched for drugs.
When I came home from work, all of my doors were broken, my home was standing open and there was also a hole in my garden from them searching the property.
I am not a criminal.
What makes me angry is that this is not the first time.
In 2019, during another operation, they broke my door down and church groceries worth R5 000 were stolen.
I then went to the Crystal Park Police Station and they admitted to the raid, however said they didn’t steal the groceries.
I am appealing to the government to fix my doors, as I am not against these operations, but against acts of crime at my premises.
Whoever did this, please come and fix my doors.
I stay in a shack, but I am not a shack.
Editor’s note: Crystal Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Leraro Mopeli said the station commander Lt Col Belinda Motaung met with Oupa and advised him to open a case of malicious damage to property. “No one is above the law when it a crime is committed. A case should be opened so that the police can investigate,” said Mopeli. “The community is encouraged to work with the police as they are our eyes and ears.”
