The Crystal SAPS social crime prevention unit together with the youth, CPF, Green Door ambassadors, Daveyton SAPS LGBTIQ+ Organisation and the Liquor Forum hosted an awareness campaign in Cloverdene on November 27.
The aim of the campaign was to educate the youth and the community about the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign and about the LGBTIQ+ community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/gender diverse, intersex and queer).
Spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mopeli said they want the community to stop being judgmental towards the LGBTIQ+ community and to also understand some of the challenges they face.
“It is the community’s responsibility to ensure that everyone is treated with respect and that no one lives in fear of another person,” said Mopeli.
On November 25, the officers from the station handed out pamphlets at the Crystal Gate and at the Cloverdene shopping centres.
The pamphlets shared information on domestic violence, gender-based violence, kidnapping, road safety, and Covid-19 tips.
