The 29-year-old participated in the 10km challenge in October at the Fat Cats Race and finished the race in 39.09 minutes.
Runner and cyclist Sipho Marima, who dedicated himself to run 10km under 40 minutes to raise funds for the children at Nyeleti Children’s Home in Putfontein, managed to raise R7 825 48.
He recently handed over the money to the children’s home.
The 29-year-old participated in the 10km challenge in October at the Fat Cats Race and finished the race in 39.09 minutes.
He said the run was a success. The children from the home came to support him and that made the day even more beautiful.
“The article published by the City Times really helped and the community joined hands to make this wish come true, some also donated food and clothes to the children,” said Marima.
“Indeed, it takes a village to raise a child, thank you to everyone who helped raise funds for the children.”
He added that as you grow older, you realise you have two hands for a reason, one to help yourself and the other one to help others.
On the day, he ran besides Daniel Mosomane, Bongani Bilankulu and Lizzy Ramadimetja, who pushed him to achieve his goal.

The home shelter feeds 30 children between the ages of one to 17.
Nyeleti Mkhonto, director of Nyeleti Children’s Home, said the money will make things a bit easier for them.
Mkhonto thanked Marima and everyone who donated to ensure that the children don’t go to bed hungry.
