Art comes to life at Northmead exhibition

The exhibition saw 25 artists showcase their work, with each artist having about three pieces on display.

Art lovers got an opportunity to admire the artwork of the talented members of the Benoni Art Route and Artists Working Together at Northmead Square from December 9 to 13.

The exhibition saw 25 artists showcase their work, with each artist having about three pieces on display.

There were also painting demonstrations each day at 11am by prominent art teachers (members of Benoni Art Route) Paul Botes, Larry Mervitz, Pam Selkirk, Bonnie Franks and Elaine Marx.

One of the Benoni Art Route members, Pam Selkirk, demonstrated how to make a painting with ink and pouring on canvas.

On December 13, shoppers enjoyed an ink and pouring on canvas demonstration by Pam Selkirk.

Selkirk said due to the pandemic they were unable to have two exhibitions this year.

She added that during the exhibition they had a lot of interests from art lovers and it has been wonderful to interact with them while they explore the art.

“The artworks are of a higher quality this year, it shows that the artists are growing and their skills are improving all the time,” said Selkirk.

Selkirk thanked the mall for always accommodating to them and everyone who has support them even during these tough times.

A percentage of the proceeds of the sale of artworks during the exhibition will go to Kid’s Haven.

The artists said they are looking forward to their next monthly art route on January 31 at the CR Swart Dam, Rynfield.

The exhibition is held on every last Sunday of the month with live music from one of the artists Kevin Melville and a tea garden by Doppio Zero.

One of the lucky shoppers will get to win a R1 000 hamper sponsored by Jack’s Paint and Handware and other shoppers snap a pic of their favourite art piece and share it on the mall’s Facebook page win a painting.
