OPPS founder trains 50 women to defend themselves

Many of these women have been attacked or are victims of domestic violence, so the OPPS team provided self-defence training through sponsorship from The CREACHAs, AfriForum, Bad Boyz Security and OPPS.

Vincent May, Benoni AfriForum member and founder of On Point Protection Skills International (OPPS), recently trained 50 women from Kya Sands in self-defence.

The idea was to show women from all walks of life that they are more powerful than they ever imagined.

This was his contribution to combating the increasing problem of gender-based violence.

Vincent brings a vast array of professional martial arts, security and policing experience to the business. He teaches close-quarter combat skills to law enforcement agents, security professionals, farmers and civilians.

His passion for teaching is rooted in his own hard-hitting experiences of friends and family members he has lost due to crime.

The unique, constantly evolving OPPS system is comprehensive, practical and effective, which is why it is rapidly gaining popularity in South Africa and abroad.

Increasing stats relating to attacks on women have steered OPPS in a new direction.

“There seems to be more talk than action when it comes to violence against women in South Africa. OPPS has trained over 500 South African women since March 2020,” said Vincent.

He added that he is a proud member of AfriForum and a preferred trainer, so when AfriForum connected OPPS to NPO Rare Bear Project, I was eager to get involved.

Rare Bear empowers 50 local women with the means to crochet soft toys that are sold or donated to comfort people suffering from rare diseases.

The proceeds are re-inserted into the organisation to sustain this programme.

Many of these women have been attacked or are victims of domestic violence, so the OPPS team provided self-defence training through sponsorship from The CREACHAs, AfriForum, Bad Boyz Security and OPPS.
