Gang of robbers cleans out storage units in Dunswart

The security guards were then taken back to the camera room in the early hours of the morning.

The Benoni police are investigating a case of business robbery after about 50 self-storage units were broken into on May 2, on the corner of Atlas Road and Commissioner Street, Dunswart, at around 11pm.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the complainant alleged he was in the camera room with his colleague when they heard footsteps outside.

“His colleague pressed the panic button. The robbers then broke through the door of the camera room and he was hit with an unknown object,” said Sekele.

“The suspects took the gate remote and the panic button. The security guards were tied up and taken outside where one of the armed robbers stood watch over.

“The robbers stole various items from the storage units,” she said.

The security guards were then taken back to the camera room in the early hours of the morning.

It is alleged that about 10 or 11 robbers were involved, three armed with firearms.
