Family grateful for wheelchair donation

Martha was only able to get around by crawling or if somebody carried her.

The Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora recently donated a wheelchair to Martha Makhuloane, a five-year-old girl who was born deformed.

The club was contacted by Ligia of St Vincent de Paul, Barcelona informal settlement, and the Friends of Martin de Porres to assist with a wheelchair for little Martha.

Martha was only able to get around by crawling or if somebody carried her.

Her mother, Emily, has been diagnosed with stage four cancer and gets tired very easily, making it very difficult for her to carry her daughter.

Martha’s grandmother, Johanna Skhosana, was most grateful for the donation of the wheelchair.

Johanna looks after 11 children, including Martha, when Emily needs to go to the hospital.

Rotarian Gail Wilson said nobody realises what a Godsend a wheelchair is when you don’t have the strength to carry a crippled person anymore.
