Increase in motorbike, bicycle theft in Farrarmere

Criminals have their sights set on your wheels

Members of the Benoni Police Station have recorded an increase in burglaries targeting motorcycles and bicycles in Farrarmere.

According to Capt Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the police station, more than seven incidents have been reported in the past week.

“From our investigations, we have found that these crimes occur all hours of the day and in many cases gates are derailed or gate motors are damaged for the suspects to gain entry to the victims’ property,” she said.

“We suspect that the bikes and bicycles are being targeted to supply cross border demands.”
She said investigations indicated that there are possible ‘scouts’ roaming the area, identifying targets and possibly manipulating possible points of entry.

“We know that residents have done their utmost in ensuring the safety of their homes, properties and belongings. We are appealing to everyone to keep a close eye on any suspicious movements,” she said.

“Report such incidents to the local police, CPF, security companies as well as community chat groups.”
