Spinning mania at The Rock

The Spin Grid event was hosted at The Rock Raceway on February 26.

The Spin Grid series began on February 26 at The Rock Raceway.

Sixteen competitors took to the grid in an attempt to earn points for the R150 000 prize money at the end of the series in December.

“The series takes place over 10 months. Every time the drivers enter, they earn points and the competitor with the most points at the end of the series will be the winner,” said organiser Narina Pursad.

The drivers obtained points from completing various obstacles on the grid within the time set out from qualifying.

“Each obstacle has a demarcated area and points will be won by being within the demarcated area. If the obstacle the driver is attempting is moved or bumped into, then points will be deducted from the driver,” added Pursad.

White plumes of smoke billowed into the air as the daredevils took turns spinning around the grid, attempting to earn points. In the end, it was Zwikhodo Nembambula from Pretoria who drew first blood, as his precision and skills saw him come out on top.

The second competition will take place on March 19.

The results were:

1. Zwikhodo Nembambula

2. Veejaro

3. Riyad Haffejee

4. Llewelyn Lambert
