Forum appoints new pastors to help fight crime

Pastors selflessly commit themselves in the fight against crime.

In their efforts to assist police fight crime spiritually, local pastors in Etwatwa recently ignited their partnership with Etwatwa SAPS through their Police Pastors Forum (PPF).

The revival event took place at United Church of Christ in Etwatwa where SAPS Chaplain Mpho Daniel Shai and PPF Founder Eddie Mariba officiated the induction of new committee members.

According to the chairperson of the forum, Pastor Nomsa Mabawa, PPF is an organisation where pastors commit themselves to work in support of the police to fight crime.

“While the police fight crime physically, pastors fight crime spiritually by offering prayer.

“The organisation started in 2013 in response to an incident where a Mozambican taxi driver was dragged down the street by a police van in Daveyton, which resulted in his death. This caused friction between the community and the police officers and that is when the organisation was formed in order to bring peace between the police and the community,” she said.

Mabawa said the divine intervention between police and the community is necessary and they have seen more successes. They have also collaborated with the CPF.

Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Khensani Mathebula, said: “The forum has been beneficial to us since we partnered with the local pastors. Every Monday, the local pastors visit our police station to conduct morning devotion, which also boasts us spiritually. When we do community meetings, awareness campaigns, and school safety we invite them to join us to share a word of encouragement.”

Etwatwa station commander, Col Molatello Maoto said he acknowledges and commends the pastors for their dedication to the partnership. He further encouraged them to continue ensuring moral regeneration in communities.
