Work at the Northmead water tower is still on track

Phase two of the project will commence on July 1.

Despite disruptive rains, the metro maintains that work at the Northmead water tower remains on schedule and that construction will be completed by the end of June.

According to the metro spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, contractors are in the process of pouring the basin walls.

“The wall lifts need to be poured in sections, as the walls are usually more than 6m high,” he said.

“Pouring that amount of concrete at once is not doable and it is, therefore, being done in three stages.”

He said the first part has already been poured and the second level should be completed by mid-May.

“The remaining step and the roof should be completed by mid-June,” he said.

“Phase two of the project will commence on July 1 in order to ensure the project becomes fully functional.”
