‘Giver’ donates 100 pairs of school shoes

The school principal, Farirayi Rufetu commended Given the Givers efforts.

Philanthropist and businessman Given Muhlarhi, better known as ‘Given the Giver’, donated 100 pairs of school shoes to learners of Etwatwa Secondary School on May 10.

According to Muhlarhi, he was moved by the predicament of a 15-year-old girl from the school who has faced hardships in her life.

“The story of the girl touched me so profoundly because she encountered serious family issues that affected her ability not to attend school. As a result, one of the leaders in her community approached me and informed me about the girl’s situation.

“As part of my programme, I decided to reach out to the family after visiting them.”

The businessman said he has pledged to take care of the girl’s financial needs.

“Following the girl’s placement at the school in the middle of the year, the donation of the school shoes was a token of appreciation to the principal for agreeing to place the child at the school.”

The school’s principal, Farirayi Rufetu, commended Given the Giver’s efforts.

“The poverty in the school is great, and the school needs people like Muhlarhi. School shoes are necessary for a learner because I have experienced the pain of not having school shoes. It is winter now and it is cold, and not having school shoes tends to cause a learner to lose concentration and it decreases attendance at school. Children should not be worried about things they shouldn’t worry about,” said Rufetu.

One of the leaners said he is happy about his brand new shoes.

“My shoes were torn and since it is cold, it was hard for me to concentrate,” said the learner.
