Young Daveyton lawyer continues making his mark
Sphesihle Nxumalo was named under the Justice & Law category.
Sphesihle Nxumalo (28), an attorney of the High Court and a mid-level associate in Baker McKenzie’s Antitrust and Competition Practice Group, has recently been named one of the Mail&Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans.
The young lawyer from Daveyton was named under the Justice and Law category.
Nxumalo, who is also a member of the International Bar Association and the Association of Competition Law Practitioners, said the highlight of his career was being short-listed as one of two finalists in the whole of Africa for the Most Promising Young Lawyer in Africa Award at the African Legal Awards last year at the age of 27.
“The awards and nominations are an achievement on its own because it shows that people see the work I do,” he said.
“My experience spans the entire spectrum of antitrust and competition law across all African jurisdictions. I advise and represent blue chip multinational companies on high value and complex transactions, as well as on antitrust litigation relating to abuse of dominance, cartel conduct and vertical restraints.”
The young lawyer mentioned that nothing beats determination.
“If you are determined, doors will fling open and spaces shall be created. Young people should strive for everything unapologetically and believe that they can make it,” said Nxumalo.
For over two decades, the Mail & Guardian has featured 200 Young South Africans on their journey to positively impact the world through future-focused innovation and passion, leaving an indelible mark for the generations to come.
