Sibikwa’s Creative Industries Career Exhibition a success

The Sibikwa Arts Centre hosted the second Annual Creative Industries Career Exhibition on May 18 and 19 for Grade 12 learners interested in art.
Learners from high schools in Benoni and Brakpan learnt about the various art-related careers they could embark on when they leave school.

The exhibitors included the Wits School of Arts, the TUT Faculty of Arts, the International Hotel School, AFDA, the Arts and Culture Trust and many more.
According to the project manager at Sibikwa Arts Centre, Vumile Qupe, with the career expo, they wanted to put the word out there for Grade 12 learners interested in the performing arts.

Learners had one-on-one conversations with the exhibitors.
Precious Msimango of Dalpark Secondary School said, “We are fortunate to get this opportunity to be part of this exhibition. I didn’t know that many careers involve art. At least now I know because I want to pursue a dance career.”

Another learner, who wants to become an actress, Siphesihle Motshweni, said, “I feel motivated today because I had planned to take a gap year next year. I now realise that if I do, I’ll just be wasting my time because there are many courses I can do.”
