WATCH: Residents enjoy Mardi Gras

About 90 residents participated in the fun and games.

When the sun came out to play on October 6, the residents of Fairleads Retirement Village in Rynfield had a great time outdoors during the Mardi Gras festival.

The morning event brought the staff and residents together for fun, laughter and dance.

Bright tablecloths and balloons in bright colours were part of the décor and got attendees into the carnival spirit.

Entertainers from Tandem Flame amused the residents with flame-throwing, juggling, dessert and snacks. Everyone’s favourite, a balloon artist on stilts, showered the residents with balloons.

The competition saw residents create vibrant masks, and the winner received a prize.

A photo booth excited the residents when they took turns capturing special moments with their friends and colleagues.

Showing off her mask is Jacky Littleford with Jenny Labistour.

The village manager, Richard Bekker, said in the past few months, Methodist Homes (MHA) had hosted the festival at its 14 villages and homes.

“Today’s festival is the second-last one for the year. This is a great initiative to get residents outdoors for a day of fun and activities,” said Bekker.
