Local grabs business woman of the year award

"I believe in self-motivation and pushing myself hard as a woman to be independent."

At the MBA seminar and exhibition at Sandton Convention Centre on September 11, Crystal Park resident Colleen Khoza was announced as the digital and graphics businesswoman of the year.

Digital Business Portals nominated Khoza, a graphic designer. She received votes from clients countrywide for her work through her graphics business, Coco Graphics.

“When the voting lines were closed, I was told I was in the top five. They then invited me to the awards ceremony where they presented me with the award,” she said.

The 29-year-old explained the achievement motivated her to aspire to do more, adding it was a sign that her work was being valued and recognised.

“From a young age, I have learned that winning awards, however big or small, can mean a lot to build self-esteem, pride and confidence.

“It has motivated me that I can do more as a young woman in business. It is a sign that my work is valued and recognised,” she said.

Khoza started her business in July 2019 when she put her graphic and design skills to work.

Colleen Khoza started her graphics and design business in 2019.

It was only during the lockdown in 2020 that the business picked up. She designed party posters for family and community members, whose positive feedback made her realise it was what she was destined for.

“I always had a keen eye for design and a passion for creativity. I started by making greeting cards at home and then did posters for the community and friends for their events. That was my breakthrough in the industry and media space.”

Since the beginning of her business, Khoza has established relationships with various businesses and she is also a recognised wedding planner.

“I am driven by work that allows me to learn and grow. I believe in self-motivation and pushing myself hard as a woman to be independent. This made me authentic to stay true to myself and excel in what I do,” she said.
