Cyclists to honour rider in memorial race

“With this ride, we wish to endorse and send a forceful message that all cyclists’ lives matter.”

The Vikings Cycling Club is urging local cyclists to join them during the Paresh Gordhan Memorial Ride on December 10 in Lakefield.

Gordhan, or “Pro” as he was affectionately known, was killed in an accident on Great North Road on November 9 following a collision with a VW hatchback Polo while on a ride.

“We humbly request and urge all cyclists – beginners to professionals, clubs and businesses – from our beloved Benoni and surrounding areas to honour us with your presence to ride in solidarity with the Vikings Cycling Club in remembrance and celebration of the life of our brother and friend,” said organiser Kishen Sukha.

Paresh Gordhan with his wife Rekha and sons, Vihaan and Dhyan.

Sukha explained the ride will take place over a 30km course in the Benoni suburbs and surrounding areas.

“With this ride, we wish to endorse and send a forceful message that all cyclists’ lives matter,” said Sukha.

Race details:

Date: December 10
Venue: Dingo’s Pub in Lakefield
