Young dancer receives her national colours

She won two gold medals, a silver and a bronze at the nationals.

Rynfield dancer Tayla Tucker was awarded her national and provincial colours during the South African Dance Teachers Association (SADTA) awards on January 28.

The youngster received a national and provincial award for obtaining a national merit in freestyle solo and slow dance solo styles.

Tayla won two gold medals for the premier championship world freestyle qualifier (U12) and championship freestyle pairs (U11) during the SA championships last year.

She came second in the premier championship qualifier and was third in the premier championship slow dance in the U12 category at the same competition.

In June, she came second in the U12 championship freestyle pairs and third in the premier championship slow dance in the same age group at the World Freestyle Championships in Blackpool, England.

She was fourth in the premier championship freestyle solo dance at the same competition.

Tayla, from Shanleigh Dance Studio in Northmead, will again represent the country in the world freestyle championship in June after qualifying for the competition at the nationals, where the president of the Federation of Dance Sport SA, Thabo Phiri, gave the 10-year-old her national colours.
